Scope and Content Interior of gun-loop, ground floor, north-west tower of courtyard steading, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. This is one of the gun-ports of the ground floor of the north-west tower of the courtyard steading. The tower was probably part of the castle's original curtain wall, or barmkin. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
