Scope and Content Site plan, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. The main E-shaped block was constructed in 1740-54 by father and son, Sir Robert and Sir Harry Munro. In 1777, Sir Harry added the bays at either end (right and left). The north-west tower at the rear (left) may have been part of the original defences. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
