Scope and Content South front of Castle Leod, near Strathpeffer, Highland Castle Leod was probably rebuilt after 1608 - the year Roderick Mackenzie received the estate from his brother - and enlarged a few years later. It fell into disuse in the 18th century and was restored, altered and extended in the 19th century. This is the south face of the original L-plan tower. The east-west block was extended south in the 17th century (left) to house a fashionable scale and platt stair. The Mackenzie arms are carved over the main ground-floor entrance.
