Scope and Content Number 4 Shore Street, Cromarty, Highland Cromarty was a depopulated and poor burgh until 1772 when George Ross purchased the Cromarty estate and went on to establish a rope-works and a brewery. The town flourished until about 1850 when both enterprises failed. Number 4 Shore Street (right of centre) was built in 1775, the date inscribed on the plaque recording its construction by George Hossack and Anne William. It is one of the many houses erected during the burgh's period of prosperity. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
