Scope and Content Aerial view of Cullen, Grampian This aerial view shows the town of Cullen, created a royal burgh by King William the Lion between 1189 and 1198. Much of the present town is the result of the commissioning of a New Town by the Seafields of Cullen House in 1811. George MacWilliam produced plans for the town, which were altered in 1817 by Peter Brown. The town was gradually built 1820-9. The harbour (top) was built in 1817 and another quay was added by William Robertson in 1834. The town is dominated by two railway viaducts carrying the Great North of Scotland Railway Moray Firth coast line. Designed by Patrick M Barnett in 1882-4, one had two arches, while the other seen here has eight brick arches spanning the Burn of Cullen. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
