Scope and Content View of Old Toll-house, Station Road, Inverkeithing, Fife Inverkeithing was created a royal burgh in 1165, and its harbour on the Forth was well suited for trade. Many industries have come and gone here, including an ironworks, distillery, shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and papermaking. This low single-storeyed building is a former toll-house. Probably built in the late 18th or early 19th century, it served as a house for the toll collector on one of the main turnpike roads into Inverkeithing. It is rubble-built, harled and whitewashed with black painted door and window surrounds. This elevation to the road is rounded, for all-round observations with two windows and a central doorway, Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
