Scope and Content View of Burgh Arms Hotel, Nos 16-22 High Street, Inverkeithing, Fife Inverkeithing was created a royal burgh in 1165, and its harbour on the Forth was well suited for trade. Many industries have come and gone here, including an ironworks, distillery, shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and papermaking. This view shows the Burgh Arms Hotel which was built in 1888 on the site of a house dated 1664. It incorporates a triangular pediment carved with these dates placed above the entrance to the bar (centre). The hotel is two-storeyed with modern dormer windows. Built of rubble, it is limewashed with black painted door and window surrounds and quoins (stones at the corners of the building). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
