Scope and Content St John's Church of Scotland, Church Street, Inverkeithing, Fife St John's Church of Scotland was built as a Burgher chapel in 1753. It was heightened and widened in 1798-9 Large round-arched windows flank the pedimented porch. The masonry is of rubble. The Burghers, formed in 1747 from part of the Scottish Secession Church, defended the morality of taking the Burgess Oath necessary to become burgesses (full citizens of a burgh) even though the oath seemed to support established religion.
