Scope and Content Enclosed settlement at Old Mains of Rattray, Perth and Kinross This settlement site, which was discovered through aerial survey, lies 420m north-west of Old Mains of Rattray. The cropmarks reveal the remains of a timber round-house and a souterrain surrounded by a palisaded enclosure. This is an aerial view of the site. The outline of the enclosure can be seen as a dark cropmark, just below the road, at the centre of the image. The marks inside represent the souterrain and the round-house. Souterrains are stone-lined underground passages, probably used for storage. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
