Scope and Content Bellevue Crescent, Edinburgh, looking to the north Bellevue Crescent, designed by Thomas Bonnar in 1818, forms an elegant and near-symmetrical curve with St Mary's Church at its centre. The southern half was completed in 1832, and the northern section, due to the steep slope, was completed later in 1884. This shows the southern half of the crescent, a single unbroken sweep of three-storeyed houses, with the church near the centre of the curve. The crescent faces gardens which separates it from the main road, and gives the houses a pleasant outlook. Bellevue Crescent incorporates the new name given to Lord Provost George Drummond's estate by General Scott of Balconie when he bought it after Drummond's death in 1766 and rebuilt Drummond Lodge as 'the house of Bellevue' c.1775.
