Scope and Content Gillespie Memorial Church, Chapel Street, Dunfermline, Fife Gillespie Memorial Church was built as a United Presbyterian Chapel in 1848-9 by Andrew Balfour. The interior was altered in 1882 and contains a stained-glass window by R Douglas McLundie. The buttresses on either side of the entrance were originally capped by pinnacles. The United Presbyterian Church was formed in 1847 from denominations that left the Church of Scotland in the 18th century. It joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1900 creating the United Free Church, apart from a minority who became the Wee Free Church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
