Scope and Content Palace Kinema, 40 Queen Anne Street, Dunfermline, Fife The Queen Anne Street frontage of the Palace Kinema began as a manse, built in 1766-7. In 1915, Muirhead and Rutherford added three storeys and incorporated the building into the Palace Kinema. The posters advertise cinema newsreels, and direct patrons to the cinema's Muir Street entrance. Cinema's were a popular place of entertainment, and through newsreels, also a source for current affairs until 1952 when television became widespread in Scotland. Within 10 years, TV set ownership reached 1 million, and the number of cinemas was halved. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
