Scope and Content Redrawn from DC 32373 for publication with comparative plans of medieval and later monuments. Plan of a farmstead at Chapelhill, Dumfries and Galloway Field survey in 1990, prior to the construction of a chemical pipeline, discovered the remains of a previously unknown post-medieval farmstead, and was subject to limited excavation in 1991. The site lies some 350m north-west of Chapel steading. On plan, the farmstead comprises three rectangular buildings with adjoining yards and remains of turf field-banks built around rock outcrops. Ploughing on the west and south has destroyed any further settlement or cultivation remains. As the farmstead does not appear on the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of 1857, or a late 18th-century map of Kirkpatrick-Juxta showing local farms, it was likely abandoned by the end of the 18th century and possibly replaced by the nearby Chapel steading.
