Description Publication drawing; Plan of Dumgree church and burial-ground.

Catalogue Number SC 382757

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 32515

Scope and Content Redrawn for publication from DC 32361. Plan showing church and churchyard at Drumgree, Dumfries and Galloway The grass-grown footings of the medieval parish church stand within its burial-enclosure which is situated on the southern flank of Park Hill, some 800m south-west of Parks steading. This plan shows that preserved within the graveyard are earlier cultivation terraces. Most of the burials are marked by headstones (shown in black) though six have larger grave-slabs (shown in outline). Drumgree is first on record around 1180 when Walter de Carnato granted the church to Kelso Abbey. Following the Reformation the parish was annexed to Kirkpatrick-Juxta, and the church presumably abandoned. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
