Scope and Content Drawing of a grave-slab from Wauchope Old Parish Church Part of the medieval church of Wauchope still stands within the grounds of the Old Parish Church. Several pieces of medieval sculpture including grave-slabs and stone mouldings have been recovered from the vicinity. Reworked at a later date, this fragmented grave-slab bears an incised cross with wedge-shaped arms. Subsequently a ring in false relief has been added, overlying the cross. The slab's originally chamfered edges have been cut away by later rebates. The earliest record of a church at Wauchope is 1220, when the payment of the vicar's annual stipend was agreed at five marks. The church was demolished following its absorption into the newly created parish of Langholm in 1703. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
