Scope and Content Drawing of a medieval grave-slab from Wauchope old parish church, Dumfries and Galloway Part of the medieval church of Wauchope still stands within the grounds of the Old Parish Church. Several pieces of medieval sculpture including grave-slabs and stone mouldings have been recovered from the vicinity. This drawing shows a fragment of a grave-slab, bearing the incised outline of a ringed cross. Beneath the cross is an orb, and the shaft probably originally terminated in a stepped base, but the end of the slab is missing. The earliest record of a church at Wauchope is 1220, when the payment of the vicar's annual stipend was agreed at five marks. The church was demolished following the absorption into the parish of Langholm in 1703. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
