Description RECTILINEAR Aerial view.

Catalogue Number SC 381726

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of B 16717

Scope and Content Aerial view of a moated enclosure at Garpol Water, Dumfries and Galloway Remains of a five-sided moated enclosure lie in badly-drained ground on the eastern bank of the Garpol Water. The darker-coloured marsh vegetation outlines the broad moat enclosing this site. The southern part of the site has been washed away by the river before it adopted its present course. This moated site has been interpreted as a stock enclosure for the motte-and-bailey castle at Garpol Water, some 200m to the east. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
