Scope and Content Kirkcaldy Town House, Wemyssfield, Kirkcaldy, Fife Kirkcaldy Town House was built to a Scandinavian-influenced design by David Carr which won the competition for the contract in 1937. However, the project was delayed by World War II so that the building was not completed until 1957. The design is modern, but not Modern Movement in style as it has traditional elements including the dressed stone or ashlar, Classically spaced windows, and the Nordic clock-tower - Carr's version of a standard feature of earlier civic buildings. Writing about his successful entry to the 1937competition, the David Carr was of the opinion that civic buildings should reflect the strong architectural traditions of the Scottish towns for which they were intended.
