Scope and Content Cupar Burgh Chambers, Cupar, Fife Cupar Burgh Chambers replaced the medieval tolbooth which the Provost is alleged to have illegally demolished one night in 1810 to improve access to his own property. After the public outcry, he part-funded the new building. The chambers were designed by Provost John Ferguson's architect. However, the contractor seems to have planned the details. A third architect built the dome and belfry. There were always shops on the ground floor below the council chamber. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
