Scope and Content Fort at Cardean, Angus This Roman fort is at Cardean. It seems to have had a single period of occupation during the Flavian period, and was probably abandoned shortly after AD 86. Some traces of the rampart and outer defensive ditch can still be seen as a low, broad mound. The fort is best viewed from the air where its layout can be seen as a series of cropmarks. It was protected by up to three ditches, and there was a gateway in the centre of each side. Some of the internal roads can also be made out in this photograph. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
