Scope and Content Across the bay to The Bothy, Canna The Bothy incorporates the predecessor to Canna House and faces across Canna Harbour. Originally, there was another storey but this was removed in the 1860s. A sketch dated to 1787 shows the house with three storeys and adjoining single-storey wings. This single-storey range with attic accommodation comprises a cottage and adjoining outbuildings. It is of whitewashed rubble and has a slate roof. It has been refurbished by The National Trust for Scotland and is used as accommodation for their staff. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
