Scope and Content Drawings of rigid airship shed, East Fortune, East Lothian The rigid airship shed at East Fortune was built in World War One as part of the strategic network of airship bases thrown up by the Royal Navy to defend the coastline. The shed had to enclose as much space as possible while being strong enough to withstand the wind. The design consisted of an all-steel construction of transverse frames joined by longitudinal members, clad by camouflaged corrugated iron-sheeting. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
