Scope and Content View of north-east angle-tower, Castle Sween, Argyll and Bute Castle Sween dates from c.1200 with additions in the early 13th to 17th centuries. Garrisoned in the 1640s, it became ruinous soon after. It has been repaired since being place in the care of the Office of Works (now Historic Scotland) in 1933. This is a view of part of the north-east angle-tower. This rectangular tower originally contained a kitchen on the ground floor, with various chambers above. This tower is also known as MacMillan's Tower, probably after Alexander MacMillan who was keeper of the castle for the Lord of the Isles from c.1472. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
