Scope and Content Detail of base of north doorway of Dunstaffnage Chapel, near Dunstaffnage Castle, at the mouth of Loch Etive, Argyll Dunstaffnage Chapel's original architectural details date it to 1225-50. The burial aisle was added in 1740 when the main building was already ruinous. This was for the use of the Campbells of Dunstaffnage, hereditary Captains of Dunstaffnage castle. This is all that survives of the moulding around the north entrance to the nave where the worshippers would have gathered. The nearest shaft is filleted. This means that a ridge runs along its length, giving it a key-hole shaped outline. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
