Scope and Content Campbell burial aisle at Dunstaffnage Chapel, near Dunstaffnage Castle, at the mouth of Loch Etive, Argyll Dunstaffnage Chapel's original architectural details date it to 1225-50. The burial aisle was added in 1740 when the main building was already ruinous. This was for the use of the Campbells of Dunstaffnage, hereditary Captains of Dunstaffnage castle. The Campbell burial-aisle was built as a roofless enclosure with a Classical pediment over the entrance. Some of the masonry was probably quarried from the ruined chapel and included perhaps two fragments of a late medieval font. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
