Scope and Content Slate-quarries and workers' dwellings, Easdale, Argyll The quarry on Easdale is one of the many Scottish slate quarries which flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially on the Argyll seaboard and its offshore islands. These 18th century workers' dwellings were built to house the workforce near to the quarry. They are typical of the slate industry at the time. In most cases, existing settlements would have been too small and scattered to provide enough workers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
