Scope and Content Site plan of later Murrayshall Limeworks, Cambusbarron, Stirlingshire The later Murrayshall Limeworks was founded in 1896-9. It burned local limestone deposits using coal from Bannockburn. A tramway, shared with Hayford Mills, connected it to the nearby Forth and Clyde Junction Railway. Following standard practice, the kiln-block was built into a bank to make it easier to load of 'charge' the kilns (b) from the kiln-head (a). Quicklime was drawn off through the eyes inside the draw arches. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
