Scope and Content Fort and temporary camps at Malling, Perth and Kinross This Roman fort and two temporary camps are at Malling. They are built on a terrace about 7 m above the W end of the Lake of Menteith. The camps lie to the S and W of the fort. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort and camps show up as cropmarks. The fort was surrounded by two ditches, and has entrances in the NW and SE sides. These can be clearly seen where the ditches turn inward. The is also an annexe below the fort. The fort was discovered in 1968. Some excavation has been done, including cutting a section across the ditches. Both were the typical V-shape. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
