Scope and Content Possible font, Gretna old church and parish church, Dumfries and Galloway Gretna old parish church probably lies on the site of its medieval precursor, first recorded in 1170. Built in 1790, the church incorporates masonry of an older structure, perhaps 17th century, and the churchyard contains a number of medieval grave-slabs. Now situated outside the present manse, this finely carved circular trough could be a medieval baptismal font. No decoration can be seen on the trough which measures 0.8m in diameter and 0.4m in height. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
