Scope and Content External view of the meat market at Fountainbridge, Edinburgh The meat market at Nos 56-8 Fountainbridge in Edinburgh was designed by Robert Morham in 1884. This is a view of the outside of the meat market. It shows a bull's head situated above the south entrance to the meat market. There were three bulls' heads on the front of the building. Fountainbridge has been associated with the meat trade for centuries. This was due to being on an important trade route into the city. Markets and slaughter houses were usually close together. The allied industry of tanning was found nearby in West Port. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
