Scope and Content Moffat Town-house (also known as 'Green Steeple'), Dumfries and Galloway Moffat Town-house was built in 1772. It probably replaced an older tolbooth on a different site which was designed in 1695. The steeple was shortened in the 1960s when the bell was removed. This bell, now lost, is said to have been inscribed with the Annandale family arms and coronet, as well as the date 1660. It was probably made in that year by William Langshaw. Built 1772 Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
