Scope and Content Elevation of New Galloway Town Hall, Dumfries and Galloway New Galloway Town Hall dates to the early 18th century but was almost completely rebuilt in 1875-6. Its bells were donated by two Jacobite supporters, the 6th Viscount Kenmure executed after 1715, and the brother of the Earl of Dundonald. A new clock was made in 1872 in Croydon after the original one, now in the Stewartry Museum, became 'utterly worthless' at keeping time. The corbels also date to 1872, but the ornate stone posts are the remains of an earlier balustrade. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
