Scope and Content Fort at Black Hill, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire The fort is built on the summit of Black Hill. The earliest use of the site was for a Bronze Age burial cairn. The fort appears to have had only one period of construction though is a later settlement joined on to the south side. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort consists of a single stone wall surrounding the entire summit. Within the wall is the earlier cairn. To the S, the later settlement consists of a double rampart and ditch. It had up to five houses inside. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
