Scope and Content Fort at Raeburnfoot, Dumfries and Galloway Raeburnfoot is a small fort on a plateau overlooking the confluence of the River Esk and Rae Burn at Eskdalemuir. It was probably a roadside station providing quarters for patrols. Excavations show one brief period of occupation, in the Antonine period. This is a plan of the fort. It has the typical rounded rectangular layout of Roman forts. There is an outer, parallel enclosure. There are no defences on the W side, where natural defences are used.
