Scope and Content Detail of Chimney-piece in Council Chamber of Stirling Town-house, Stirling Stirling Town-house replaced a medieval tolbooth on the same site. Funding came from the Malt Tax. 'Hyeland oak trees' were used for the spire, and 'Fyne French glass' was ordered for the windows. The roof required repeated repairs. A late 18th-century style chimney-piece survives on in the first-floor council-chamber. This floor retains much of its original interior, unlike the second floor which has been heavily altered.
