Scope and Content Strichen Town-house, Aberdeenshire Strichen Town-house was built by the Fraser family, Lords of Strichen, who founded the village of Strichen in 1764. The architect was known as 'Tudor Johnny' because he often worked in a Gothic style. Later, he designed Strichen House for the same client. Originally the town-house had a first-floor town-hall with an arcaded market beneath. This became a female school in 1875 when the arcaded openings were blocked. The original 1818 bell by Thomas Mears of London survives in the steeple. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
