Scope and Content Mid 19th century view of Coupar Angus Steeple, Perth and Kinross Coupar Angus Steeple was probably built on the site of the old prison belonging to the regality of Coupar Angus. This was granted to the ancestors of the Lords of Balmerino in 1607, having previously belonged to the local Cistercian abbey. This is how the steeple an the abbey looked around 1850. The steeple has hardly changed since then, except that the present clock dates from 1865. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
