Scope and Content The Dower House, Corstorphine, Edinburgh, after restoration The white-harled Dower House stands in the north-east corner of St Margaret's Park, set back from Corstorphine High Street. The house, dating from the 17th century, is now used as the headquarters of The Corstorphine Trust. Originally L-shaped, the house was extended to a T-plan in the 18th century, and its height raised to three storeys. The door, with a cornice and a moulded panel-frame above, is set in the north wing, and the gables on the main block are crowstepped. The Dower House, built c.1660, has been carefully restored by The Corstorphine Trust, after the building was damaged by fire in 1991. The north and south harled fronts have been whitewashed, giving the house something of its 17th-century appearance. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
