Scope and Content Elevated view of Main East Stand from south-west, Heart of Midlothian Football Club, Tynecastle Park Stadium, Gorgie Road, Edinburgh Tynecastle Park Stadium has been the home ground of Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) Football Club since 1886. The club was founded in 1874 and played at East Meadows, Powburn and Powderhall before moving out to its first Gorgie site in 1881. The club's emblem is a saltire and ball set in a heart and its players wear maroon and white. This shows the Main Stand backing onto McLeod Street. It still looks much the same although the seating capacity had to be reduced when the pitch was moved 6m to accommodate the new Wheatfield Stand opposite in 1994. The terracing on the right has gone to make way for the new Gorgie Stand. Main Stand was designed by the prolific football stand designer Archibald Leitch (1866-1939). By the time it was completed in 1919, estimated costs had jumped to £12,000. By comparison, the Wheatfield Stand, which opened in 1994, cost £2.4 million. It was designed by Jim Clydesdale and the engineers were Cundall Johnston & Partners. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
