Scope and Content Entrance Hall, Leithen Lodge, Innerleithen, Scottish Borders Leithen Lodge, built in the early 19th century in the steep Leithen valley as a keeper's house, was remodelled in 1885-7 by Sydney Mitchell for George Miller-Cunningham. The interior was extensively photographed c.1890 by Harry Bedford Lemere. The white-painted hall is double height with its lower level panelled, and has 17th-century style carved baluster crowned piers supporting the gallery above. The staircase, leading to the principal rooms on the upper floor, is concealed to one side. Mitchell placed the principal rooms on the first floor to gain more light and views. He created the drawing room, dining room and boudoir on one side, linked by a conservatory built over the entrance loggia to a new billiard room wing on the other side.
