Scope and Content View of entrance front of St Peter's Episcopal Church (now demolished), Townsend Place, Kirkcaldy, Fife Kirkcaldy became a royal burgh in 1644 and originated as a settlement around a 16th-century harbour. Industrial developments had a great impact on the town, and it became a centre for linoleum manufacture in the 19th century. This shows St Peter's Episcopal Church on Townsend Place. This T-plan Early English-style church was built in 1844 to designs by John Baird. On the left is a tall slender octagonal spirelet with open arches at the third stage. St Peter's Episcopal Church was demolished in 1982 and the congregation moved to a new church which was designed by Wheeler & Sproson and built in 1976. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
