Scope and Content Interior of house in north-west range, Thrave Farm, Sanday, Orkney Islands This late 19th-century farm has not been used since the 1940s except for one of the dwellings which has been converted into a Scout hut. The steading is of an L-plan except the two ranges are detached from one another. All are of neat rubble construction in the vernacular Orkney style. This is the interior of the house in the north-west range photographed from the north-east. The dwelling, now used as a Scout hut by the 5th Orkney, Sanday troop, contains, at the west end, fitted snugly into the fireplace, a solid fuel stove marked 'No 28 Modern Mistress'. The corrugated sheet metal roof on A-framed couples is clearly visible in the picture. In the south side of the roof are two sheets of corrugated fibre glass for sky lights and two in the north side next to the wall-head. The inside walls have no render only the clay mortar between the wall material and there are no traces of cross walls or partition walls. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
