Scope and Content Thrave Farm, Sanday, Orkney Islands, from north This late 19th-century farm has not been used since the 1940s except for one of the dwellings which has been converted into a Scout hut. The steading is of an L-plan except the two ranges are detached from one another. All are of neat rubble construction in the vernacular Orkney style. This is the north-south range from the north showing the rear of the dwelling house with its pointed rubble masonry walls and chimney-stack in the south gable. It is roofed with large flagstone slabs, although part of the roof has fallen in. Inside the house is a flagstone floor and a fireplace in the north wall though oddly not in the south wall despite the chimney above. Inside, the faces of the walls have been lime rendered up to the collar beam level and the under side of the rafters and collar beams still have traces of the former ceiling.
