Scope and Content Plans of Moffat Town-house (also known as 'Green Steeple'), Dumfries and Galloway Moffat Town-house was built in 1772. It probably replaced an older tolbooth on a different site which was designed in 1695. The town-house had first-floor court-room which doubled as a grammar school in the late 18th century. Beneath was a jail. Apart from the internal wall, none of the original features have survived the modern conversion to domestic and commercial use. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
