Scope and Content Aerial view of Holyrood Road and Canongate area, Edinburgh This aerial view shows the site of the Scottish Parliament and other developments in the Holyrood Road/Canongate area. At the top is the remains of the Meadow Flat gas holders, which made way for 'Our Dynamic Earth' in 1999. Below this is the site of the Scottish Parliament prior to demolition of the original brewery buildings. In the centre is the F-plan Queensberry House which dates from 1681. Converted to barracks c.1808, it was incorporated into the new parliament. At the bottom of the image is the Calton Old Burial-Ground which stretches from Calton Road to Regent Road. This burial-ground contains many interesting monuments including a memorial to the American Civil War erected in 1893 by George E Bissett. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
