Scope and Content Plinth and statue in garden, Kellie Castle, Fife This photograph shows a statue of Cupid, which was later moved to Gibliston House, purchased by Sir Robert Lorimer (1856-1929) in 1916. Robert Lorimer was deeply involved in laying out the garden, and drew up plans in 1888 which are still being used. In 1970, the castle and garden were sold to The National Trust for Scotland, and both are open to the public. The garden of Kellie Castle was laid out by members of the Lorimer family from the 1870s onward. The garden, like the castle, was in need of restoration after a period of abandonment which lasted for most of the 19th century. The walls of the garden date from the 17th or 18th centuries, and it is entered directly from the castle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
