Scope and Content Stamped on the reverse: 'Reece Winstone, A.RP.S., 23 Hyland Grove, Henbury Hill, Bristol'; 'Institute of British Photographers'. Typewritten note: 'Edinburgh. Immediately east of St Giles Cathedral is this Mercat Cross, for several centuries the centre of civic and national affairs. The stone shaft is the original ancient cross but the pedestal was a gift of W E Gladstone'.
