Scope and Content Standing stone known as Clach Mannan (or Clackmannan stone) at Clackmannan The Clach Mannan stands outside the tollbooth at Clackmannan. The Gaelic name means Stone of the Manau, a local Iron Age tribe. It is meant to have been found about 1 km S of its current location. Its original purpose is unknown. This is a view of the stone. It is a natural whinstone boulder which was placed on top of the monolith in 1833. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
