Scope and Content Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, Argyll and Bute Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, built on the site of two earlier tolbooths, was one of the improvements contained in an 1831 Act of Parliament. The clock was made in London in 1834 and donated by the 2nd Marquis of Bute. The Duke of Hamilton, owner of Arran, unsuccessfully argued the proposed building would be costly and that instead Kinross County Buildings should be used as a model. He was vindicated when costs came to about £4,000, more than over £1,000 over budget. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
