Scope and Content Carillon inside Glasgow Tolbooth Steeple, Glasgow Glasgow Tolbooth Steeple dates from the 17th century and is all that remains of Glasgow's tolbooth which stood on the same site from the 15th century. The seventh floor of the steeple still houses a late 19th-century carillon for playing the sixteen bells hanging in the belfry. This probably replaced an older carillon as the list of carillon players goes back to 1738. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
